They aren't really in direct competition except in a very narrow range of what Lr Mobile does.Īnother example of the differences lies in backup. Adobe makes no bones about that fact, so it's not even competing with the workflow situation Mylio addresses, like synching to a NAS or between mobile devices. Lr Mobile, while it can transfer iPhone photos back to Lr, is primarily a desktop/laptop to cloud to mobile solution. And if you need to synch a lot of stuff, it definitely puts Lr Mobile in the shade. It backs up, allows mobile editing of metadata like keywords, doesn't require an internet connection, syncs devices Lr Mobile doesn't sync. They have good support, but I think they do a rather poor job of explaining the application, and sometimes I think they aren't quite sure where they wanna position it.Īnd it does a lot more than Lr Mobile. Given the posts I've done they should pay me. I do think it's still too expensive I got a deal on it at a photo show. You can use Mylio free with I think up to three devices and X number of images. Although depending on one's needs it could certainly be a complete alternative to Lr, and it surpasses it in some areas. Since it has some of the tightest integration with Lr of any non-Adobe product, I see it as complementary, obviously. So if you find yourself needing a more complete mobile synching and editing solution than Lr Mobile provides, or synch devices like laptops and NAS's that Lr doesn't support, check it out.Ĭlick to expand.Heh, I didn't realize it was a competition. It also does its own RAW processing if you'd prefer to export directly from Mylio. So if I have a RAW on my iPad I imported from the camera, and change it to B&W, change white balance, crop, etc those changes get synced back, and then the same "read" command in Lr brings those changes into Lr, and the image is now B&W in Lr as well. Uniquely, it also reads and writes lots of image adjustments. ![]() And vice versa, although you have to tell Lr to "read metadata" after you see the little file change icon pop up. If you save metadata in Lr, Lr reads that new info. Or adjust time.Īnd it interacts well with Lr. So if I rate, keyword, caption, title and copyright in Mylio that will show up when the image gets synched to my desktop. It works with a pretty full range of metadata. And it can synch over a LAN without internet access. And it syncs from device to device, so your iPad and iPhone and NAS and Android tablet can have the same images. So it can sync RAW from a mobile device, or just its thumbnail. It basically synchs using watched folders, and can synch thumbnails, previews or originals. These things may or may not matter to you. One very big limitation is that if you import RAW into your mobile device, Lr Mobile will not synch those RAW images with Lr desktop. And Lr Mobile requires an internet connection. ![]() Going the other direction, from camera roll to Lr Mobile App to desktop, has some of the same infirmities. Lr Mobile is very nice for sending smart previews to your mobile device for some adjustment work, but has some big deficiencies for some of us, like no keyword entry. I dunno how involved you get with your photos on your iPhone, but another option is Mylio. We've asked Adobe to have a rethink about that, hopefully they'll listen and maybe fix it in due course. Not really ideal, and something to watch out for. the photos will be added to the chosen collection, BUT if you initiate the LR mobile camera app from within any other random synced collection then any pictures taken in that state are added to the collection that you're in at the time (even though that collection is not enabled for auto add). But it isn't quite that simple when using the LR mobile camera app.it works OK if you initiate the camera from the LR mobile main collections screen, i.e. taking any picture with any camera app on your device (provided the app adds the picture to the Camera Roll) should end up in your selected collection and from there synced to your LR desktop. Then you have to "Enable Auto Add" in the settings for your chosen collection ("iOS Photos" in John's case).and it should be as simple as that, i.e. ![]() ![]() To enable this kind of seamless sync of all new photos added to your iDevice Camera Roll, you first have to enable the global LRmobile preference to "Auto Add Photos". Something to note though, Jim, if you follow this route of using the LR mobile camera app.
